Thermal Spray Applications

Contact Us

Thermal Spray Technologies provides engineered coating solutions for a very wide variety of industrial applications. Our coatings can be found in agricultural combines providing wear protection to harvest crops, to electrosurgical medical instruments that are used in highly complex surgical procedures. Our coatings are engineered specifically for each application through the utilization of our expertise in materials engineering and the processes of thermal spray. Most of our coatings are supplied to original equipment manufactures (OEM's), on new components produced in low, medium and high volumes.

Wear Resistant Coatings

Thermal Spray Technologies offers an almost endless variety of coating solutions to provide wear resistance. Wear mechanisms including erosion, abrasion, adhesion, cavitation, fretting, and corrosion can all be addressed using Thermal Spray Technologies engineered coatings.

Hard Chromium Plating Replacements

Thermal Spray Technologies offers an almost endless variety of coating solutions to provide wear resistance. Wear mechanisms including erosion, abrasion, adhesion, cavitation, fretting, and corrosion can all be addressed using Thermal Spray Technologies engineered coatings.

Dielectric Coatings

Materials such as oxide ceramics are used to provide dielectric properties to several electronic components. Dielectric coatings with dielectric strengths of 1000 volts per mil, (40 volts per micrometer) are routinely produced.

Electrically Conductive Coatings

A variety of materials can be engineered into thermal spray coatings to provide different degrees of electrical conductivity. Materials such as copper, aluminum and molybdenum are commonly used. Materials such as iron-chrome-aluminum and molybdenum-disilicide are also used for higher temperature applications.

EMI/RFI Shielding

Thermal Spray Technologies offers several metallic coatings to provide protection against electromagnetic interference (EMI) and radio frequency interference (RFI). These EMI/RFI coatings can be deposited onto many different substrate materials including plastics, carbon-carbon, and carbon fiber composites.

Medical Instrument Device Coatings

Medical instruments and devices utilize state of the art materials. Thermal Spray Technologies has developed coatings for medical devices that provide properties such as electrical insulation, tissue grip, non-stick, critical gap control, EMI/RFI shielding, and enhanced x-ray generation.

Food Processing Equipment Coatings, FDA Approved

Several components used to process food experience high degrees of wear and corrosion. Thermal Spray Technologies has developed coatings that provide excellent wear and corrosion resistance. These coatings also have FDA approval for use on components that contact food.

Coatings for Carbon Fiber Composites

Thermal Spray Technologies has developed a wide range of coatings that can be deposited on heat sensitive materials like carbon fiber composites. These coatings provide properties such as EMI/RFI shielding, wear resistance, and traction control.

Corrosion Protection

Thermal spray has the ability of producing coatings that resists corrosion in several industrial environments. Materials such as oxide ceramics and metal alloys containing nickel and chromium are commonly used.

Thermal Barrier Coatings, (TBC)

There are a variety of ways to provide thermal protection to components using thermal sprayed coatings. Partially stabilized zirconium oxide is a common thermal barrier coating material that can be used at very high temperatures.
